PAOCBC Winter Season 2009 Game Reports

Round 1

What a start to the season – 4 games, 4 wins … looks like the Old Reds are gonna be a force to be reckoned with again in 2009.

A’s (1-0) v Somerton A – Without 2 of the teams best players Blair and Stu the A’s would have a big battle against the always tough Somerton. The first half was an arm wrestle and at half time the score was a 21 a piece tie. In the 2nd half Goody and Liam put on a show – Goody was on fire all game finishing with 16 points and Liam scored 11 points in the 2nd half and finished with 14. All played well in the 13 point victory. Thanks for Heath for filling in.

B’s (1-0) v St Peters B – Continuing the rivalry, the B’s had a tough game on their hands against Saints. Altmann was hot in the 1st half hitting a couple of 3’s with Lunny and Mike Tye able to score down low. In the 2nd half the B’s pulled away and got the lead out to 8 but Saints came back behind the hot shooting of one of their new players and got the lead with a couple of minutes to go. With the clock under a minute Saints had the lead 29 – 30, Baker then scored off a nice shuffle pass from Jay. The B’s got a stop and Mike Tye was fouled in the penalty and made both free throws. With 5 seconds left Saints hit a 3 tying the score at 33 all. The ball was inbounded to Mike and he did a great job of forcing contact as he dribble the ball down the court – a foul was called and he went to the line with no time left on the clock. He missed the first but in true Mike Tye clutch fashion he made the 2nd and the B’s scraped out their first win for the season. Great game.

C’s (1-0) v Hope Valley A – Hark… do I hear the whistle of a train leaving the station? I believe that I do. The C Train is leaving the station. TOOT TOOT! With a relatively new C’s lineup, the team picked up right where it left off last year winning by 29 points in a great team effort. G had 16 and Palk had 12 to lead the scorers. Everyone played their role well with Pez, Vods and Hanzolo showing signs of great things to come. The young Hope Valley team were a bit too inexperienced to keep up with the might of the C Train.

D’s had a byeM/b> and start their campaign for 3 titles in 3 years this weekend.

E’s (1-0) v Clovercrest D – Court 3 … Where Amazing Happens. A great display by the E’s with a big front line of Toddy and Sully and new players John “Neo” Rowe and David “DT” Trim proving too difficult for Clovercrest to overcome. The E’s ended up winning by 30. With dominance on the defence boards Daniele, Caldy and Trev were the recipients of easy lay-ups on the other end. Daniele lead the team with 12 points. With a good mix of height and guard play, the E’s could have great season … was also great to have them out at Mars finally. Highlight of the game was Toddy yelling how many of his outlet passes hit the mark … “2 of 5”, “3 of 6”.
