A bit of blurb about our Club

Overview

The Prince Alfred Old Collegians Basketball Club was re-formed after a 10 year recess because a number of handy basketballers who played for the school's open teams wanted to start playing again, but didn't want to go back to district basketball or play for any of the other so called "amateur clubs". So they pulled their proverbial fingers out and organised the Inaugural General Meeting in February 1992.

Since then it has been an interesting progression for the Club to become arguably the Prince Alfred Old Collegians Association's most successful in terms of results; with 19 premierships in 14 years across the grades, including 4 A Grade championships. Every year since the Club's inception at least 1 team has competed in finals and 3 times all teams have competed in the finals.

Recent History

Things have been going pretty well for us over the last few years, with plenty of finals action for all teams and our 'A' and 'B' grade teams competing in the top 2 divisions of the Saturday afternoon "SA Church" league. In 2005 the A's and B's both finished runners up, with the D's winning the premiership in their grade.

Goals and Objectives

PAOCBC's primary goal is to provide Old Scholars of Prince Alfred College and friends thereof with an opportunity to practice, improve and play their basketball in a friendly and inclusive yet competitive environment. Social functions are organised on a periodic basis, but are not the Club's primary activity.

Wanna Play?

During 2005, the Club has 4teams playing in the SA Church competition on Saturday afternoons between March and September, and teams on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday nights respectively in BASA competitions at the MARS stadium. Anyone interested in joining the Club is encouraged to attend training at the School gymnasium on Tuesday nights from 6pm to 8pm during the months of March to September or make contact with someone in the Club!
