PAOCBC Season 2009 Weekly Wrap-Ups

Round 8

A’s (6-2) v B’s (6-2) - For the A’s Goody came out on fire making the first 3 baskets – for the B’s Altmann then hit 3’s, Lunny made a couple of tough baskets and Mike Tye scored 8 first half points – Blair kept the A’s in the game with a couple of timely 3’s but the A’s went into half time down 21 – 27. In the 2nd half the A’s switched to man and Stu came out on fire – the A’s went on a 13-0 run. With the score 34 – 27 it looked like the B’s were going to fall away but they applied pressure through Heath hitting a big 3 and then acting as a provider for his team-mates. Simon Miller hit a 3, Altmann hit a nice lay-up and Mike Tye was proving hard to stop in the lane. Stu then hit a 3 and Madman hit a clutch baseline j (off a pass good from Nic … I know, amazing right … he passed). With Stu and Blair as the 2 main scorers and Purge leading the structure of offense – the A’s proved a little too much. In a great contest the A’s won 47 – 41. For the B’s, Altmann, Heath and Tye were the best with Lunny, Baker, Sime and B-Rad all contributing … they very nearly pulled off the upset.

C’s (7-1) v Clovercrest B – The Mighty C-Train is back in town. The first half was poor – going into half time leading 14 – 12 – the C’s were again playing a bit scatter-brained … making dumb plays, stupid turnovers and missing too many lay-ups. At 2nd half the call was to relax – our D then held Clovercrest scoreless for the first 15 minutes … G started to heat up after a poor 1st half he attacked the basket time and time again – either scoring or setting up team-mates. The team went on a 19 – 0 run with Phil dominating down low – getting to the line and making his free throws, Palk knocking a 3, Yates steal and lay-up, Flair couple of baskets down low and Hanzolo coming off the bench after a quiet first half and making 2 long jumpers (and playing his best half for the season). Defensively is where we won the game (BB and Phil the standouts) – when we took the pressure off ourselves and played with more confidence we played very well, winning 41 – 19.

D’s (7-0) v Clovercrest C – Udit has named his team “D-ynamite”. I like it. With only 6 players the D’s took to court with a very small line-up … no matter – just total destruction again. Kaine had 26 points and is now averaging over 20 points a game … Corey said he was basket hanging though. Jamie got hot in the 2nd half hitting 3 3’s and finished with 12. Udit had 7, Pete 4 and Macca 4. Nige hit a big 3 in the 1st half … well done Nige – Cliff last week, you this week … there must be something in the water down there at Hillcrest … probably rust by the looks of the stadium. D’s win 56 – 40 and are the only undefeated team.

E’s (5-3) v Henley Beach B – Technically this game was a forfeit as Henley only had 3 players arrive but the game was played out as Lenny filled in for Henley as did a guy in a long sleeve shirt and what looked like Desert Boots. Can I say the first 10 minutes was atrocious basketball – with a 5-3 advantage on the court the E’s were tied 6 all at the half way mark of the 1st half. After the game was called off the E’s found their groove – Troy, Richard and Toddy played their best game of the season. Troy was on fire all game finishing with 21 and making 3 3’s and Toddy tied his season high with 12 points and Richard had 10. Steve had a cheeky 4 points and is slowly getting into groove. The final score was 51-21 (un-technically).
